It seems abandoned theme parks are the, ahem, theme of the week. We reported a few days ago on the fine photography of Christopher Morris. Then over at the wonderful 20×200, Jen Beckman is exhibiting the fascinating images of Beth Dow.
Dow is fascinated with the appropriation of traditional architecture in contemporary society. One photo reveals a replica trojan horse intertwined with a twisting rollercoaster; another a styrofoam greek temple, the home of My Big Fat Greek Pizza Joint. She uses Victorian platimum in an attempt to honour the beauty of the original references.
